A World Bank-assisted program, Global Partnership for Education (GPE), in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government, has disbursed a grant of N296 million to facilitate the expansion of eight primary schools within Adamawa State.

Each school has received N37 million for its respective expansion project. Additionally, under the same programme, 15 other schools have been selected for rehabilitation, with the cost to be determined following inspection.

During the flag-off ceremony held in Yola, the state capital, the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, emphasised the government’s commitment to education by announcing the waiving of NECO and WAEC fees, ensuring that students have unhindered access to education within the state. The gesture aims to create an optimal learning environment within public schools.

Professor Farauta urged the school-based management committees to take ownership of the projects and ensure the judicious utilisation of the funds allocated.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Umar Garba,  highlighted that the selection process for these initiatives followed a scientific method endorsed by the World Bank.

This approach bypasses traditional procurement processes and exempts the projects from taxes, thus streamlining the implementation process.

He added that transparent, timely, and good execution of the projects leads to other rewards by the GPE.

Seven Local Government Areas benefited in the expansion category. In the rehabilitation category, fifteen Local Government Areas were selected.
