The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Anambra State chapter, has suspended all planned and proposed congresses across the state with immediate effect, citing the need to uphold the rule of law and ongoing internal disputes within the party.
The decision was announced in a statement dated April 6, 2026, and made available to journalists in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
It was jointly signed by the state chairman, Patrick Obianyo, and the state secretary, Lawrence Okeke.

According to the statement, the suspension reflects the party’s “unwavering commitment to the rule of law, due process, and respect for judicial authority.”
The leadership directed party members and stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding during the period, while also warning against recognising any activities conducted by individuals it described as unauthorised.

The statement specifically urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to acknowledge actions taken by “those parading themselves” as party leaders.
It further clarified that the tenure of the current ADC Executive Committee in Anambra State, as well as in other states, remains constitutionally valid and recognised by INEC.
The party advised the public to disregard directives or announcements issued by individuals it described as impostors, stating that new dates for congresses and conventions would be communicated after ongoing national consultations are concluded.
The development highlights a deepening internal crisis within the ADC, following recent actions by INEC.
The electoral body had earlier withdrawn recognition of the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee, citing compliance with a Court of Appeal order to maintain the status quo.
