Over 1,000 participants have gathered in Abuja for the first-ever International Road Crash Victims Africa Conference, held at the golf course of the Nigerian Air Force Base in the nation’s capital.

The event is held in commemoration of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, observed annually on the second Sunday of November.

This year’s event featured cycling, a road walk, and golfing activities organised by the Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand (KRSD) Foundation in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The organisers also expressed confidence that the three-day conference would promote safer, healthier, and more sustainable mobility while fostering solidarity with road crash victims across Africa.

The Founder of the KRSD Foundation, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, expressed joy and gratitude that her vision for the conference—guided by the theme “Gathering Africa and the World for Road Crash Victims” has materialised as the first dedicated African forum focused on road crash victims and their families.

Anniversary Feast

Justice Dongban-Mensem, who established the KRSD Foundation on Sept. 30, 2011, in memory of her late son, noted that the foundation was celebrating its 14th anniversary with renewed commitment to road safety advocacy across Africa.

According to her, “henceforth, the conference would bring together governments, private organisations, civil society, victims’ groups, and the global road safety community to act decisively in reducing the toll of road crashes in Africa.”

The Nigerian Golf Federation (NFF) which is one of the major partners in the conference, emphasised the need for continued public private partnerships geared towards uplifting the well-being of Nigerians.

According to President of the NGF, Otunba Olusegun Ronsewe, ” we are committed to collaborating with any body or institution for the purposes of adding value to humanity.”

Golf is about humanity and value addition, and that is why we are proud to be associated with this first ever conference on Road Crash Victims in Africa.

Among the countries participating in this maiden African Conference are Liberia, Germany, Canada, the USA, and a host of others.
