Agency Launches ‘Operation Safeguard Roads’ in Sokoto

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has launched “Operation Safeguard the Road (OSGR)” in Sokoto State to enhance security and the safety of commuters across the state.

Launching the programme, the Managing Director of FERMA, Emeka Agbasi, said the initiative was designed to improve safety on federal roads and enhance security operations.

Agbasi, who was represented by the Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer in Sokoto, Mr Abdu Ali, explained that “the pilot phase of the programme would cover 53 km along the Sokoto-Goronyo-Sabon Birni road.”

He noted that “the project would last for one month and had engaged 50 ad-hoc staff under the Nigerian Government’s job creation initiative.”

The programme will involve minor road repairs, bush clearance and drainage evacuation to ensure safety and visibility along the roads,” he said.

Agbasi said that the operation would go a long way in empowering youth and promote socioeconomic activities in the state and the country.

He urged the beneficiaries to carry out their duties with commitment and dedication in order to achieve the set objectives of the initiative.

The Managing Director thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support.

In their separate goodwill messages, various Stakeholders commended Nigerian government for the initiative and pledged their maximum support toward success of the exercise.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sidi Bujeje, thanked the Nigerian Government for creating the opportunity and said that the team would discharge its responsibilities diligently.
