Akwa Ibom State Governor,  Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure projects that stimulate local economies and advance human capital development across the state.

Governor Eno gave the assurance during an inspection of ongoing construction work at the Model Secondary School, Ikot Akpan Abia Ubium, in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.

He said the project was in line with his administration’s vision to establish model secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom,  to advance the educational sector

“I am here to inspect the level of work done so that when the bill is presented in the office, I will know if it aligns with the work on the ground. That is the way we work,” the Governor said.

Governor Eno explained that the model school project in Nsit Ubium would serve as the pilot for similar developments in other senatorial districts.

The Governor highlighted the project’s economic benefits, assuring that it would boost local enterprise, create jobs, and promote business development in the host community.

“Projects like this will boost the community’s economy, and businesses will grow. Projects like this make a community thrive,” he emphasised.

He also urged youths to remain supportive and avoid negative criticism, stressing that educational development symbolises “light” in the community.

“Our political leader is here; please work with him and give him the necessary support. Don’t mind what critics say. All I am interested in is to remain focused and encourage those who want to work,” he said.

Governor Eno further appealed to contractors to register on the state’s ARISE Portal to ensure transparency and accountability in the contract process.

He called on citizens to come together,  while urging Akwa Ibom youths to “come home and join hands to build our state.”

In an overview of the project, the Delivery Adviser on Education, Idongesit Etiebet, disclosed that the school would feature a Technical Laboratory, an ICT Centre, hostel blocks for male and female students, a library, a multipurpose hall, sporting facilities, staff quarters, and a farmland to promote agricultural learning.

Also speaking, Senator Effiong Bob commended the Governor for prioritising educational development, pledging commitment.

He assured that the youths of the area would continue to collaborate with contractors to ensure the timely completion of the project.

Traditional rulers, including the Clan Head of Ubium,  Etebom Ukpong Noah Udoewah (JP), and the Village Head of Ikot Akpan Abia Ubium, Ime Ben Uboh, also lauded the Governor for the initiative, describing him as a visionary leader whose ARISE Agenda continues to impact communities.

Meanwhile, in a separate visit to the Ibom Model Farm at Ikot Edibon, Nsit Ubium, Governor Eno announced the immediate release of N50 billion to all contractors whose Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) are ready.

He directed the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service to ensure prompt payment of the approved funds through the Accountant General’s office.

Governor Eno said the directive was aimed at maximising the opportunities of the dry season to accelerate the pace of project delivery across the state.

The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government, which places priority on education and human capacity development.

“We will continue to work with our young people and support creativity and innovations that will positively promote and position them to accomplish more in life,” the Governor assured.
