The Independent National Electoral Commission In Akwa Ibom State southern Nigeria has issued the Certificate of Return to Akwa Ibom State Governor-elect Pastor Umo Eno and his deputy Senator Akon Eyakenyie following their victory during the March 18th governorship elections.
Presenting the Certificates of Return at the Commission’s office in Uyo the state capital, the National Commissioner, May Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated them on their victory and wished them a successful tenure.
Also presented with Certificates of Return, were 25 state assembly members-elect out of the 26 state constituencies.
Recall that the electoral commission had declared election in Etim Ekpo/Ika state constituency inconclusive as no candidate was declared winner after the elections.
Pastor Umo Eno and his party the Peoples Democratic Party won the governorship elections and all but two seats in the State House of Assembly which it conceded to the Young Progressive Party (YPP).
In his acceptance speech, the governor-elect Pastor Umo Eno who dedicated the victory to God and hard work, called on Akwa Ibom people to celebrate with him.
The governor-elect also invited his opponents to join in the celebration saying there is no need to entertain any fear.
“Today is a day of good tidings in Akwa Ibom. Even those that didn’t support us made us to work. If you got this without a contest, then you would not appreciate what you got.
“The contest showed you the enormity of what God is about doing in your life. So, you need to celebrate those people that contested with you, so there is no fear whatever,” he said.
Umo Eno who comes from the tourism sector, promised to promote tourism in Akwa Ibom State and score many milestones in that sector.
In his words, “I am from the tourism sector, so we want to promote tourism in Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom will score many milestones. So, as we achieve these milestones, relax.”
The People’s Democratic Party has ruled Akwa Ibom State since the return of Democracy in 1999 and has always had the highest number of seats in the state house of assembly.
