The Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni (ANUA) has resolved to form strategic partnerships to drive sustainable funding solutions for Nigeria’s higher education system.

In a press statement released by the National Public Relations Officer of ANUA, Mallam Suhailun Maccido, it was disclosed that the strategies will be unveiled at the association’s Bi-Annual Conference themed “Bridging the Gap: Alumni Driven Solutions for Sustainable University Funding.”

The four-day conference, scheduled for 2–5 October 2025 at Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi State, will draw about 150 alumni presidents from universities nationwide. Discussions will focus on: Alumni involvement in developing sustainable university funding models by exploring innovative financing mechanisms and alumni-led initiatives, while leveraging professional expertise to strengthen the university system through enhanced academic excellence, infrastructure development and improved graduate outcomes.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, will serve as Chief Host and formally declare the conference open. Professor Yakubu Ochefu, National Chairman of ANUA, will host the gathering and lead a session on “Rethinking the Nigerian University System: The View from the Alumni.”

The programme will also feature a keynote address by Professor Saminu Ibrahim, former Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, and a specialised session on “University Business Eco-Systems” to be facilitated by Architect Chris Uloko, a member of ANUA’s Board of Trustees.

Established as the umbrella body for alumni associations across Nigeria, ANUA works to strengthen the bond between universities and their graduates. The association promotes collaborative initiatives that advance higher education, foster professional networking and contribute to national development through strategic partnerships and advocacy.

By bridging the gap between institutions and their alumni communities, ANUA continues to play a pivotal role in resource mobilisation, policy engagement and championing sustainable solutions to the challenges confronting Nigerian universities.
