The Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the upcoming November 8, 2025, election in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has officially named Mrs. Ifeoma Veronica Okaro as his running mate.
The announcement was made at a brief but symbolic unveiling ceremony in Abuja, accompanied by a statement from the Moghalu Media Centre and Dr. Ikenna Agu, Media Adviser to Dr. Moghalu.
Describing his running mate as “a woman of unshakable integrity, seasoned educationist, and a tested leader,” Dr. Moghalu noted that her selection followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders, grassroots mobilizers, and civil society actors across the state.
“I am confident that Anambra will be greatly enriched by Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro’s experience, values, and unwavering commitment to public service,” he said.
Mrs. Okaro brings more than 40 years of service in public administration, education, and grassroots development. She is the current President of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Women’s Wing, and previously served as Chairperson of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC).
Her earlier roles include Principal of the prestigious Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, and Education Director with the Diocese on the Niger Education Board. Her work has earned her national recognition, including the Presidential Award for Best Public Secondary School Administrator in Nigeria.
Hailing from Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area, Mrs. Okaro is widely respected as a gender advocate and community mobilizer.
In her acceptance speech, she described the nomination as “an honour and a responsibility to represent millions of Anambra women.”
“This is not just my journey, it is our collective step forward. You have made us believe again that if you educate a woman, you educate a nation,” she stated.
She pledged to champion an inclusive, people-focused campaign and assured supporters of her commitment to service.
“We will not betray the confidence reposed in us. We will mobilize, we will serve, and we will win together,” she said.
According to Labour Party stalwart, Mr. OCN Okafor, her nomination has been met with widespread approval across political and civil society circles.
“The Moghalu-Okaro ticket represents a compelling vision for Anambra, one rooted in experience, empathy, discipline, and a deep commitment to development.”
The Labour Party campaign is expected to enter a new phase next week with the inauguration of the State Campaign Council.
According to party sources, the council will include experienced politicians, technocrats, youth and women leaders, and representatives from all three senatorial zones.
The council’s mandate will be to deepen issue-based engagement and showcase the Moghalu-Okaro team’s development blueprint for Anambra State.
The statement noted that with the formal unveiling of Mrs. Okaro and the campaign infrastructure taking shape, the Labour Party is poised to intensify its outreach efforts ahead of what is shaping up to be a decisive election for the future of Anambra.
