The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the ongoing Anambra State election, Dr. George Moghalu, has stated that there are no reported glitches in the process so far.
Speaking to journalists shortly after casting his ballot at Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi, on Saturday, Moghalu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold its constitutional duty by ensuring a free, fair, and credible process.
“I didn’t hear of any major glitches so far. As we continue to monitor the process, we’ll be able to confirm how credible it is,” he said. “There’s some improvement compared with previous elections, but when a process is monetised, it’s no longer free or fair, ” expressing concerns about alleged vote buying.
The Labour Party candidate said he observed low voter turnout in a few polling units visited.
“I’m worried not just for myself, but for the process,” he said. “We need an electoral system that can guarantee stability and strengthen our democracy.”
He called on INEC to intensify reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and rebuilding public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.
The Anambra governorship election, viewed as a critical test of Nigeria’s electoral integrity, has drawn attention from domestic and international observers.
