NDA Course 47 Marks 40 Years, Celebrates Service

The Ministry of Defence has applauded members of the 27 Short Service Combatant Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy for their decades of service to the nation, as the course marked its 40th Anniversary in Abuja.

Representing the Minister of Defence, Major General Bala Isandu (Rtd) conveyed retired General Christopher Musa’s goodwill to the alumni members at the gala night held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess, Asokoro.

He described the course as a distinguished group that has made significant contributions to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

General Musa noted that the members have served across operational theatres, command positions, and national assignments over the past four decades.

The Minister acknowledged the sacrifices made by members of the course, including those who lost their lives in the line of duty, stating that “their contributions remain part of Nigeria’s military history and national development.”

In his welcome remarks, President of the Alumni Association, Major General Okechukwu Ugo (Rtd), said the anniversary provided an opportunity for reflection, reconnection, and appreciation of shared experiences since joining the Nigerian Defence Academy in March 1986.

He noted that members of the course have risen to occupy key positions within and outside the military, including senior command roles, international peacekeeping missions, and leadership positions in civil and traditional institutions.

The event featured a minute of silence in honour of deceased members of the course, as well as acknowledgements of the support of families, particularly spouses, in sustaining officers throughout their years of service.

Activities marking the anniversary also included health lectures for members and a humanitarian outreach to an orphanage in Kuje, where donations of food and household items were made.

The gala night was attended by representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff, senior military officers, alumni, and invited guests
