The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast and believe in the nation’s potential for greatness, despite current economic and security challenges.

Speaking at the 65th Independence Day celebration at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Governor Soludo framed the occasion as both a celebration of national heritage and a “sober reflection” on the country’s journey since 1960.

In a speech that balanced realism with optimism, the governor acknowledged the “pressing issues of insecurity and economic strains” but emphasized that Nigeria’s “greatest resource is its people.”

“Notwithstanding the challenges, our greatest resource is our people. Invest in people, invest in the future,” Governor Soludo stated.

Striking a notable tone of support for the federal government, Governor Soludo specifically praised President Bola Tinubu for implementing a series of bold economic reforms.

He characterised the recent removal of the long-standing fuel subsidy and efforts to stabilise the national currency as “necessary medicine for an economy long distorted and pampered.”

He pointed to Nigeria’s recent GDP growth of 4.28% the highest in three years, as a sign of potential.

The Govenor said; “With good governance laid at the foundation..The nation is poised for accelerated growth and transformation.”

He urged citizens, whom he credited with an “indomitable spirit,” to stand firm.

“With vision, hard work, and faith, no obstacle is insurmountable,” he asserted, promising that “a bright future awaits.”

Govenor Soludo also called for a collective effort in nation-building, urging patriotism through actions such as paying taxes, supporting ongoing reforms, and holding leaders accountable.

The event, attended by the state’s deputy governor and service commanders, concluded with a parade and march-past, celebrating Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity and symbolising a hopeful look toward the future.
