Anambra lawmakers celebrate Eid with Muslim community

Senators representing Anambra Central, Chief Victor Umeh of Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Prof Oby Lilian Orogbu and Hon. Henry Mbachu, the House of Assembly Member representing Awka South l Constituency, on Thursday celebrated Eid Al-Adha with Muslim community at the Central Mosque in Awka, the state capital.

In their separate remarks, the lawmakers extended their gratitude to God Almighty for giving them the opportunity to celebrate this year’s eid and also reminded them that Muslims and Christians are one and should co-exist peacefully.

“I promise to extend scholarships to Muslims living in Anambra so that their children would go to school. There will be a concerted effort to improve the life and wellbeing of every person in constituency,” Umeh reiterated.

 

Prof. Orogbu in her remarks, urged the Muslims live peacefully for more unity and progress of the country.

“Christians and Muslims both live in Nigeria as one people so let’s consciously uphold those things that make us one than things that divide us,” Orogbu noted.

While rounding up, the Anambra State House of Assembly member representing Awka South 1 Constituency, Hon. Henry Mbachu, stated that he would ensure every member of the constituency enjoys dividends of democracy irrespective of religion barriers.

“I am there to bring everything due for us as a Constituency and make sure it gets to the right people and places irrespective of religion,” he stated.

The Sarki of the Awka Muslim Community, Alhaji Garba Haruna in his address, welcomed the lawmakers and appreciated the kind gesture for deeming it proper to come and felicitate with the Muslim.

“On behalf of my brothers and sisters here, we are happy for coming to be with us in this time of celebration. We pledge our unalloyed support to you all to achieve a better representation for everyone’s good”, he stated.

Food items such as bags of 50kg rice, crates of malt, one big ram, among others were donated by the lawmakers.
