The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has promoted discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self-reliance and patriotism as core values for youths in Anambra State
The NOA Director General said that core values are imperative in raising Nigerian Youths at all levels to become responsible citizens
The Director General, who was represented by Mr Chibuike Okorie of the Orientation and Behaviour Modification Department of the NOA headquarters in Abuja explained that; “The programme was deemed necessary by the Federal Government to equip the participants with all requisite knowledge of the National Core values which include, discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self reliance and patriotism
“The society has lost sight on promoting the spirit of the National Core values, hence the exponential increase on youth restiveness in the Country and the call on Parents, teachers and other stakeholders in the education industry in Nigeria to work towards proper engagement of the youths in order to make them become worthy ambassadors of their country,“ he stated
According to the Director General, the Agency is making efforts to organize debates and quiz competitions among the Students to further engage them meaningfully to become responsible and productive citizens of the country with a view to building a strong, better and responsible Nigerian society as desired by all.
The State Director of the Agency in Anambra State, Joseph Uchendu, advised the Students to eschew all forms of social vices such as examination malpractices, cult related activities capable of ruining their future as they work towards acquiring good education without cutting corners.
In his lecture the Acting Head of Programmes of NOA, Anambra state , Mr. Christopher Uzoh, who spoke on the topic, “National Ethics as key to National Development,” called on the participants to shun get rich quick syndrome and sexual abuse by being serious with their studies to acquire what he described as virtuous education and as well become virtuous individuals in the society.
In another lecture titled, “Morality In An Immoral World: Challenges To Contemporary Youths,” the Deputy Director of Planning Research and Strategy, NOA, Awka, Felix Agbu, urged the students to remain focused at all times.
The Anambra State Commander, War Against Indiscipline (WAI), Mr Francis Nwoye, stated that the event was organized to get the participants young and to dissuade them from indulging in obnoxious activities that could render them useless in the society.
The event was attended by Students from Saint John of God, Girls Secondary School Awka, Nneoma Secondary School Nibo, Kenneth Dike Grammar School Awka and Community Secondary School Enugu -Agidi among others.
