Anambra state Government moves to provide potable water solution

The Government of Anambra State has inaugurated the conduct of Hydrogeological and Hydrological Mapping and Modeling for Water Source Potentials in the state.

It is a partnership between the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources and Tona Geological Consultants (Consortium) Nigeria Limited.

This is in line with the determination of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in providing portable water solution innovation for the people of the state.

The State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka said that the project goes beyond drilling boreholes and installing water pumps.

“The baseline data collected here will serve as a foundation for evidence-based planning, policy formulation and sustainable water resource management.

 “The programme which is a fulfillment of a major manifesto promise of the governor will also provide baseline data to aid the development of a master plan for proper planning.

  “This is because valuable insights will be gained into the quantity, quality and distribution of ground and surface water across the various aquifers thereby allowing for informed decisions regarding water resource management and development in the state.

 “We are working with three documents, including Soludo Manifesto, Anambra Vision 2070 Report and the Transition Committee Report.

 “This water project will help us to plan well and properly allocate the meager resources we have in the state’’.

The Managing Director, of Anambra State Urban Assets Holding Corporation, Mr. Ikeobi Ejiofor while unveiling the Governor’s Plan for restoring water in the state, said that water is an essential commodity which explains the reason behind the governor’s support for the project.

Ejiofor called on residents of the area to protect the facilities so as to make water available in their homes.

“In the long run, water will be available in Ifite, some parts of Okpuno, Agụ Awka, and environs, as well as across the state’’.

Making their various contributions at the occasion, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike and the Chairman, Anambra State House Committee on Power and Water Resources, Mr. Emma Nwafor spoke on the safety of water and pleaded for the assistance of International bodies as well as of Public Spirited Individuals in partnering with the state on water provision and supply.

The event took place at the Aroma Overhead Reservoir, Ifite Road, Awka the state capital.
