The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade) has warned its personnel against unethical conduct while on duty.

The OCHA Brigade is an enforcement arm of the Anambra State Government that ensures a clean, healthy, green, livable, and productive Anambra State.

The Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, observed that most of the personnel had formed the habit of extorting money from innocent citizens and even beating up people while on duty.
Anere gave the warning at the command’s headquarters, Awka, while distributing 50 kg bags of rice to each of its staff member across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Comrade Anere noted that the command could no longer tolerate such misconduct.

“Ocha Brigade is a clean, orderly, disciplined, and healthy enforcement agency with focus on cleaning up the state for healthy living,” he asserted.

The managing director said that he was going to set up a special secret monitoring team to monitor the activities of staff on the field, who will be sending reports to him.
“This monitoring team is not going to be members of OCHA Brigade.
If anyone is caught taking a bribe, beating or involves himself in any unethical behaviour, I will dismiss him. And before I do that, I will show the person’s video where he was caught doing the wrong things.
OCHA Brigade is not a breeding ground for you to be collecting money in uniform. Infact, it is a double penalty because you are disgracing the uniform.
“For most of you who have made up their minds to be collecting money, it is better you resign because if I catch you, I will treat you like a tout.
This is a festive period.  The governor and Anambra people expect you to show decency in doing your jobs and not misbehaving.
Again, I will no longer tolerate you beating up people like common criminals.
If somebody commits an offence, arrest him and don’t beat him or her. You do not need to beat any person before arrest,” he stated.
Anere affirmed that there must be discipline in the brigade, if there must be a way forward towards achieving a healthy and clean Anambra State.
He further warned those who are bent on tarnishing the image of the brigade to stop destroying the good works of others.

A Stern Warning

Anere warned that henceforth the OCHA Brigade will be ruthless with anybody found misbehaving on duty.
“If you don’t want to be in the brigade, please honorably resign because it is better you resign than being dismissed.
If you are sent to Eke Awka, I expect Eke Awka to be free. If I send you to Bridge Head, I expect no hawker there. These are your primary duties, and not to be collecting peanuts from defaulters instead of doing your lawful duty, thereby destroying the good deeds of your colleagues.
“When I came in as your MD of OCHA Brigade, most of you were receiving N35,000. How much are some of you earning now?
Now that I am trying to make sure that you will be accommodated in everything that belongs to the state government, you are paying back with betrayal and disgrace to the government and the uniforms,” he said.
