Anambra Teaching Hospital Plans Inauguration of Sickle Cell Clinic

The Chief Medical Director CMD of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Anambra state, COOUTH, Dr Joe Akabuike said that the government has concluded plans for the hospital to inaugurate a sickle cell clinic.

The clinic will solely cater to those living with sickle cell anaemia.

Dr Akabuike made this known when a nongovernmental organization that cares for children living with sickle cell anaemia paid him a courtesy visit at his office.

Speaking during the courtesy call, Mrs Chinwe Nnagbo who led the children living with sickle cell anaemia to the COOUTH CMD, said that the visit was to schedule a plan for the children’s medical check-up every first Monday of the month to the hospital.

She said that the foundation aims to put smiles on the faces of children with sickle cell as well as encourage them by providing some drugs like astymin, parodying, folic acid, vitamin E among others.

She pleaded with the CMD to accelerate the commencement of the sickle cell clinic as it will go a long way to ease their burden.

Responding, Dr. Akabuike extolled Mrs Chinwe Nnagbo passion, doggedness and antecedents towards the challenged children.

He promised that the management of the hospital will support them by commencing a sickle cell clinic in the hospital to help ameliorate their pains, even as he called for all hands to be on deck in supporting children living with sickle cell anaemia in Anambra state.
