Anambra: University Vice Chancellor urges Students to shun cultism

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka in Anambra State, Professor Charles Esimone has called on students in various tertiary institutions to be of good conduct, shun cultism, examination malpractice, certificate forgery as well as take their studies seriously for them to successfully end with the acquisition of a university degree.

He made the call on during the 2023/2024 matriculation ceremony held for newly admitted students of the university, marking the formal closure of admission of fresh undergraduate students into the school.

Professor Esimone, whose address was delivered to the students by the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Frank-Collins Okafor at the faculty of Social Sciences, announced that the university has performed exceedingly well in academics for the past five years as the recent ranking of Time Higher Education World University Ranking 2024 places the school as the fifth best university in Nigeria and thirty-first in Sub-saharan Africa ranking.

He also urged parents to always pay their children school fees as and when due to enable the university maintain existing facilities and to I provide new ones, even as he advised them to always visit their children in school unannounced as it will help to curtail their excesses.

Some of the newly admitted students, Peace Uchenna of Mass Communication Department and Kemi Bisola of Economics Department, expressed their excitement at finally being matriculated into Nnamdi Azikiwe University, assuring that they will make their parents and the university proud.

For his part, a parent who witnessed the ceremony, Mr. Daniel Chukwuka commended the academic standard of the school and encouraged the students to prioritize their studies, shun cultism and immorality.
