The Umunnachi community in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, publicly declared their unwavering support for the Young Progressive Party (YPP) governorship candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, and his deputy, Uzu Okagbue, in the upcoming November 8 Anambra State gubernatorial election.
The endorsement came during a well-attended event held at the Umunnachi Civic Centre on Saturday, drawing a broad spectrum of community leaders and members.
Present were prominent figures including Ndi Ichie Umunnachi—traditional titleholders such as Ichie Okpala, leaders of the Umunnachi Improvement Union, the Women’s Union, Ndi Nze, the Iyom Society led by Chief Mrs. Ngozika Njelita, and the Umueze dance troupe, among others.
In his opening remarks, Mr Frank Okonkwo, President General of Umunnachi, emphasised the significance of the gathering, noting the unprecedented turnout that filled the civic centre. He praised Uzu Okagbue for his longstanding commitment to the community’s welfare and public service.
“This event is historic for Umunnachi. I have known Uzu from the days of his father and can attest to his integrity and dedication to our people’s progress,” Mr Okonkwo stated.
Addressing the community, Uzu Okagbue formally introduced himself as the YPP deputy governorship candidate running alongside Sir Paul Chukwuma.
“I stand before Ndi Umunnachi to confirm that your son is on the ballot as the running mate to Sir Paul Chukwuma in the November 8 election,” Okagbue affirmed.
The community responded with enthusiastic solidarity, pledging their full support to the YPP ticket. A stirring speech by Oliver Onwughali, Ichie Ikemba, resonated deeply with attendees, reinforcing the collective resolve.
The gathering concluded with prayers led by Chief Ikechukwu Nwachuya, Onowu Umunnachi, affirming the community’s unified commitment to backing the YPP candidates in the forthcoming election.
