The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration has organised a one-day sensitisation programme for Heads of Secretariats, Departments and Agencies in a bid to curb corrupt practice within the work cycles of the FCT
While delivering his address during the sensitisation exercise, in Abuja, the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello said all hands must be on deck in order to wage a successful fight against corruption.
Malam Bello who used the occasion to charge public officers within the FCT workforce to apply Public Service Rules in the discharge of their official assignments, added that already the FCT Administration had institutionalized good working ethics as well as international best practices which have engendered stronger institutions.
He added that the recent impressive performance of the FCT Administration during the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission(ICPC) Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard for Ministries, Departments and Agencies was a reflection of the hard-work and dedication by the entire staff of the FCT Administration.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye noted that the FCT Administration has shown tremendous commitment in the fight against corruption.
Represented by the ICPC Director of Systems Study Review, Barrister Abia Udofia, the Chairman explained that Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit is not out to witch-hunt any Organization or individual but to complement the efforts of government to ensure that things are done right.
He said FCTA ACTU is active and driving the way for anti-corruption crusade in the FCT.
Also corroborating, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mr. Olusade Adesola said the fight against corruption has been vigorously pursued by the present Administration in the last six years with remarkable track record of achievements.
According to him, the cankerworm called corruption has the propensity to in no small measure undermine the developmental strides and progress of any Administration.
Adesola further explained that the Administration has put in place anti-corruption policies and programmes that would ensure that staff comply with established Government guidelines and procedures.
On his part, the Director in the Office of the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Udo Samuel Atang, explained that the fight against corrupt practices in Government establishments is underscored by the devastating impact of corruption on the nation’s economy and growth.
He said the approval of the sensitization exercise by the authority of the FCT Administration is a clear demonstration of the commitment of the Administration to nib the menace of corruption in the bud.
Present at the sensitization lecture were Director of FCTA Human Resources Management, Malam Mohammed Bashir, Chairperson of FCTA Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, Bunmi Olowookere and several other Directors of FCTA.
