Antimicrobial Resistance: Expert charges health workers on stewardship
A Clinical Microbiologist at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute Metta, Lagos, Dr Kemi Tuta, has charged health workers on Antimicrobial stewardship through appropriate prescription of antibiotics drugs to patients.

Tuta spoke during a programme organised by the hospital to commemorate the 2023 World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week.
The week is marked every Nov. 18 to Nov. 24 to create awareness on antimicrobials resistance which poses a threat to humans, animals, plants, and the environment.
The theme for the 2023 antimicrobial week is “Preventing Antimicrobial resistance together “.
She said: “We need to embrace antimicrobial stewardship because it is the way to go in combating antimicrobial resistance. Prescription of antimicrobials in the hospital must be well documented based on the reason for prescribing the antimicrobials to patients. Surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis should not extend more than 24 hours,” she advised.
