A philanthropist and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ekiti State, Kolawole Akinlayo, charged leaders to provide quality leadership with accountability and transparency at all levels of governance. He stressed that quality leadership that emphasised selfless service was necessary for the sustenance of democracy.

The APC chieftain spoke at Ikosu Ekiti in the Moba Local Government area while distributing over 700 bags of rice to the aged and the needy and APC members and leaders in Ekiti North Federal Constituency II comprising Moba and Ido/Osi council areas.

He said, “The gesture is borne from a need to identify with the aged, needy and our party members in the area during this season. It is part of efforts to put smiles on their faces particularly and a way of giving back and sharing love with people.”

Akinlayo stressed the need for the political class to embrace selfless service to the people who voted them into power as part of dividends of democracy, just as he promised to continue to give helping hands to the oppressed.

“We can only sustain democracy if leaders provide quality leadership, ensure accountability and transparency at all levels, and if the welfare need of all sections of society, including the aged, unemployed and needy, are accommodated,” he asserted.

The APC chieftain, who advised party members to ensure continuity of the laudable people-oriented projects, policies and programmes of the Dr Kayode Fayemi administration, assured his readiness to support the party. He said he would ensure the emergence of former Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, as the APC candidate in January.

While congratulating the people of the two council areas and indeed Ekiti State for the peaceful Christmas celebrations, the APC chief advised, “I urge you to be steadfast and committed in the New Year.”
