The interim Chairman of the All-Progressive Congress, APC, in Kano state, Abdullahi Abbas has been returned as the new Chairman of the party in the state after pulling a total of 3,122 votes out of the 3,320 delegate votes.

The result was announced at the voting venue, Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Stadium, Kofar Mata by the Chief Returning officer, Barrister Auwal Abdullahi, who led a seven (7) man delegation from the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja to conduct the Congress.

Before the commencement of the exercise, another contestant for the Chairmanship position, Mustapha Sharif, from Dala local government of the state withdrew from the race. Other contestants like him similarly withdrew from other positions being contested.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Muhammad Lawan immediately swore in the Chairman and other newly elected party officials.

The Chairman-elect, Abdulahi Abbas in his acceptance speech pledged to uphold the Constitution of the party and carry every member of the party along.

The Chief Returning officer, Barrister Awalu, however, said the entire process is still subject to the Party’s Appeal Committee if need be.

Kano State Governor, Dr Umar Ganduje said the National Headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, went through the process for the conduct of state congress of the party in the state and approved of it.

“The seven-man election committee sent from APC National headquarters, under the team lead of Barrister Auwal Abdullahi has gone through our process and noted that it is okay,” Ganduje said.

He said like the Ward and Local Government Congresses, the state Congress also witnessed another successful and peaceful conduct.

According to Governor Ganduje, Sani Abacha Stadium was the only venue where genuine and lawful Congress was taking place in the ancient city, stressing that any other that may be conducted by some disgruntled elements in the party is null and void.

“We thank you for being orderly and we will follow the normal procedures for this all-important event,” Ganduje added.
