The All Progressives Congress, APC has rejected the result of the Saturday Kano State Governorship election that saw the emmergence of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP as the Governor elect.
The APC is also calling for immediate review of the election result by the electoral umpire within seven days.
The rejection was made by the party Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas at a press conference held at the Gawuna/Garo Campaign headquarters in Bompai, Kano state north Western Nigeria.
The APC chairman, who was represented by the party’s legal adviser, Abdul Adamu Fagge insists that the election should be declared inconclusive because the cancelled votes based on violence were greater than the lead margin as provided by the Electoral Act.
He also drew attention to the cancellation of sixteen House of Assembly elections in the state based on Violence that are now pegged for inconlusive election because of the issue of lead margin.
He said, however the same consideration was not giving while collating the governorship election, even when the both election took place simultaneously.
“We express dismay as the two elections took place same day, same time, same places and under the same circumstances,” he said.
He further stated that the chief returning officer used the INEC guidline number 2 to declare the winner of the governorship election instead of using the INEC guideline number 6.
The governorship candidate of the APC, Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna said the election should have been declared inconclusive based on the facts on ground.
He alongside all other party executives urged all members of the party to remain calm in the face of provocation by opponents as the party was seeking legal processes to claim their mandate.
