The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has returned Rufus Bature as the party’s Chairman during the state congress.
The congress took place in Jos, the State Capital, with observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present.
The congress drew prominent party leaders and stakeholders, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, members of the National and state Assembly, and the 17 local government chairmen, among others.
Speaking at the conclusion of the exercise, Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Oscar Yelwa, applauded party faithful for adopting consensus and demonstrating internal democracy.
He noted that the congress was convened to formally inaugurate a new state executive that would pilot the affairs of the APC in Plateau State.
In his acceptance address, Bature assured members that he would work diligently to reposition the party for greater success ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that failure is not an option.
He reflected on his years of service to the state, having served under the administrations of former governors Joshua Dariye and Simon Lalong, as well as the incumbent governor.
Describing his emergence as chairman as a significant responsibility, Bature pledged that the new executive committee would uphold the core values of the APC and deliver on the expectations of the people of Plateau State.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang characterised the congress as historic and called on members to remain united as one family.
He further urged aggressive grassroots mobilisation, encouraging every registered APC member in the state to canvass support vigorously and recruit at least ten new members into the party.
