The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of some suspected members of the Boko Haram Terrorists in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.
The spokesperson, 3rd Brigade Nigerian Army in Kano, Captain Njoko Irabor confirmed the operation, but did not give exact number of suspects arrested.
He said that “the exercise would be continuous” stressing that details of the recent operation will soon be released.
The terrorist group were said to have been arrested when troops of the Nigerian Army stormed Filin Lazio in Hotoro area of Kano metropolis and raided a mosque and some houses.
Sources in the area revealed that the raid which caused fear and panic among residents was carried out while the Muslim faithful were breaking their Ramadan fast, Saturday evening.
Another eyewitness revealed that the soldiers went away with some unidentified items from the surroundings of the mosque putting the figure of arrested Boko Haram suspects at 10
Pundits have it that the arrest maybe an effort by the military to mop up those escaping from the heat turned on the Boko Haram members in Borno and Yobe states by security operatives.
Hotoro was known to be notorious and a hot bed of operations carried out by the Boko Haram group years back, when the ancient city of Kano was under attack by the sect.
The statement further said the ongoing operations is predicated on the need to apprehend criminals who may want to hibernate in any part of Kano State, while enjoining the general public, especially residents of Filin Lazio Hotoro, to go about their lawful businesses as security forces are on top of the situation.
The Nigerian Army also used the medium to appeal to the peace loving people of Kano State to maintain high level of vigilance and continue to report suspected movement of strange individuals or groups in their environment to the relevant security agencies for prompt action.
