Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 22 Armoured Brigade have reinforced security in Babana, Niger State, by neutralising armed bandits, and recovering weapons and ammunition.
According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, the encounter occurred at about 2:50 a.m. on Thursday when troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Babana engaged the bandits in a fierce exchange of fire.
“ During a follow-up operation, troops neutralised two bandits and recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines with 60 rounds, 323 rounds of 7.62x54mm ammunition, and a mobile phone,” the Army statement read in part.
The military confirmed that one officer and one soldier sustained gunshot injuries to the legs during the operation, but were responding positively to treatment.
The Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins said: “Our troops remain resolute in defending communities and ensuring that citizens can live and work in a secure environment. This operation reflects our commitment to proactive, intelligence-driven action against criminal threats,” Brigadier General Barkins stated.
The successful operation highlights the Nigerian Army’s dedication to reinforcing security, deterring criminal activities, and maintaining stability in Niger State, contributing to a safer environment for socio-economic growth and community development.
