Taking to her social media on Monday evening, the 200m Olympic finalist revealed both her excitement for the new chapter and the reasons behind her difficult decision to part ways with Nigeria.

“Racing back-to-back across amazing cities and learning from the best has been incredible. As some of you have heard, I’m also starting a new chapter representing Turkey.”
The sprinter, who has been one of Nigeria’s most decorated athletes in recent years, highlighted her achievements while also expressing her disappointment with the treatment she received from Nigeria’s athletics authorities.
“I am proud to have represented Nigeria for many years in a highly successful way, winning six gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes in championship meets, and reaching the 200m Olympic final.”
“But I also experienced the biggest disappointment from the AFN and NOC—particularly the negligence shown towards me at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. That is why I have made this decision,” she said.
Ofili emphasised that the switch was not financially motivated but rather a step made for her growth and well-being.
She said; “While this means sitting out this year’s championship in Tokyo, this change comes from the heart, not from financial motives. I’m truly grateful to have discovered a new home in Turkey.”
Ofili further expressed gratitude to those who stood by her: “I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful for all the support I received from my coach, agent, sponsor Adidas, and my loved ones during this difficult time.”
