The Nigerian mixed 4x400m relay team competed together as a nation for the first time at the PVAMU Invitational in Texas, the first of their races as part of the relay training tour embarked on in the United States to secure qualification for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

With an outfit made up of Imaobong Nse Uko, Samson Nathaniel, Patience Okon-George and Sikiru Adeyemi, Nigeria won in a time of 3:18.53, breaking the National Record (NR) set by Delta State in winning the event at the 2021 National Sports Festival (NSF) by exactly two seconds.

It is also the second fastest time ever run by an African country, only behind Kenya who holds the Area Record with 3:16.90 and brings Nigeria up to 21st in the bid to secure qualification for the Olympics.

Nigeria still has to run faster than Germany’s 3:16.85 for a shot at competing in the Games to be staged later this year.
