The participants at the just concluded First International Research Conference jointly organized by the African Aviation and Aerospace University, AAAU, and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, NCAT, Zaria have highlighted the critical role research plays in improving Aviation practice in Nigeria.
In an interview with Voice of Nigeria, the Registrar of the African Aviation and Aerospace University of Nigeria, Dr Mustafa Sheikh Abdullahi, stressed that some of the challenges encountered in the aviation sector can be addressed through research, training, and innovation.

According to him, “the issue of data collection, as far as the Aviation sector is concerned, needs some improvement. However, with the calibre of resource persons and personalities at this conference, the discussions that we’ve been having, quite a number of questions would have been answered.
“And it’s going to be super useful to the entire aviation industry, not only to Nigeria, but to the entire globe.”
Dr. Abdullahi emphasized that the mandate of AAAU has always been to close research gaps, develop manpower, and provide homegrown solutions to Africa’s aviation and transportation challenges.
Similarly, the Dean of Aviation Management School, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Engineer Ishaya Idris Akaba, says NCAT is expanding its mode of operations beyond just offering professional trainings.
According to him, a new research and innovation unit has been established to address some of the challenges in the aviation sector.
One of the participants, Captain Umoh Edemeker, also reiterated how crucial research is, in advancing the aviation sector.
”What has been missing in our aviation sector is actually the research and presentation of results. And this is an opportunity for people who are interested in aviation research to showcase their work and make contribution towards the overall development of the aviation sector,” he explained.
