The newly licensed Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management is set to provide world-class aviation training for youth across Borno State, following a courtesy visit by its co-founder, Engineer Isaac Balami, to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Balami, who rose from humble beginnings in Maiduguri to become a leading aviation professional, shared his journey as an example of resilience and the transformative power of education. He recounted working menial jobs as a child, including at the timber market and as a bus conductor, before a state government scholarship enabled him to pursue higher education and an aviation career.

The university, one of 11 recently approved by the Federal Executive Council, will offer 11 degree programmes blending academic learning with hands-on industry training. Graduates will acquire degrees, pilot licences, aeronautical engineering competency, and practical experience, ensuring they are globally competitive.

Engineer Balami stressed the institution’s commitment to inclusivity, saying both boys and girls from all 27 Local Government Areas of Borno State would have access to top-tier training in aircraft design, avionics, digital aviation technology, and maintenance. He appealed to the state government for a partnership to support deserving students.

Governor Zulum commended Balami’s achievements, describing the university as a landmark for Borno and Nigeria. He assured the government’s support for the sponsorship of students based on merit and directed relevant agencies to identify the most vulnerable but deserving candidates.

“This university is not just a personal project; it belongs to Borno State and must be nurtured collectively,” Zulum said, adding that the initiative offers a golden opportunity for youth skill development in the aviation sector.
