Banditry: Nigeria Police Force restates commitment to partner with Traditional Leaders

The Nigeria Police Force says it will continue to partner with traditional rulers and restrategise to curtail banditry, kidnapping and other crimes in the country,

The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Ali Janga stated this during a meeting with traditional rulers and community stakeholders in two local governments that share boundaries with the Niger Republic.

According to CP Janga, the engagement meeting with community leaders was in line with Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, agenda to strategise and enhance security situation in their respective local government that were battling with insecurity across the country.

I was posted to Sokoto and when i assumed office last week i discovered Sabon Birni and Isa local government are the most challenging areas of insecurity,”

So as such without much waste of time I decided to visit these areas and meet the stakeholders to dialogue and come up with new strategies that will help to tackle insecurity,” the Police Commissioner said.

He added that with maximum cooperation of the community leaders and people of the affected areas the issue of insecurity would be history.

The New CP urged communities to Supply relevant information to security agencies that will assist them to curtail the menace.

“I’m here to work to the best of my knowledge because I work in different States and I believe with the support of State government and other key stakeholders, community leaders and everyone Sokoto will not be a bigger challenge for me,” Janga added.

He pledged to deploy more Police personnel with logistics to the areas and assist to facilitate the promise made by the federal government to build Mobile Police Barracks around the axis to enhance security.

The Commissioner commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for the support assured to him that will assist to restored lasting peace in the State.

The Acting Chairmen of the local governments and the Secretaries to the Councils, Mr Suleiman Abubakar and Muhammad Makwashe, thanked the Commissioner for the visit while assuring him more support and cooperation to improve security in Sabon Birni.

They solicited for more collaboration between governments at all levels to synergise with security agencies through the provision of required logistics that help to restored lasting peace in the areas.

The District Head of Mai Lalle, Mainasara Salihu, described the engagement as timely and commendable.

He added that the State Government is doing its best, but there was the need to strengthen synergy with the federal government to enhance more security in the affected areas.

The District Head explained to the Commissioner that in his district alone over 900 cows and 1345 sheep were restless by the bandits.

He added that 3 villages were also razed by the activities of the bandits in the area.

The District Head appeal for more operational vehicles and deployment of security personnel to help curtail the menace.

The two local governments Sabon Birni and Isa who share boundaries with the Niger Republic have been faced by the issue of insecurity and kidnapping  however the new Commissioner vowed to rid Sokoto of all forms of crime for the overall security in the State.
