The Nengi James Foundation, led by Chief Nengi James, hosted the maiden 22km Marathon in Bayelsa State on Sunday to commemorate Nigeria’s First Oil Well, bringing together athletes and community members to promote physical activity, community spirit and awareness about peace and development.

This event also marked the United Nations International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The marathon commemorated the discovery of Nigeria’s first oil well in Oloibiri in 1956 and also served as a platform to promote sports development, talent identification and community engagement, aligning with the United Nations’ theme: Leveling the playing field: Sport for Social Inclusion.
