Baga fish market Maiduguri, Borno state has been reopened and returned to its busy business activities.

 

The market was shut down at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency which affected the market and with the restoration of peace and security in the area, the market has been reopened.

 

It is the biggest Fish market in Nigeria, known for dried fish from natural waters which attracts traders from within and outside the country.

Baga Market is fed with fish from various local government areas and villages within Borno State, such as Konduga, Bama, Aloe, and from Baga town, on the shores of Lake Chad.

 

Lake Chad and River Aloe in Maiduguri are the two major sources of the fish sold in Baga, Maiduguri.

 

Baga Fish market is a major economic support for the people of the area and got its name from a village in the Lake Chad area, Baga in Kukawa LGA of Borno State.

 

Baga Fish Market can fill more than 20 big trucks with dried fish in a week.
