Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, has credited his Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso for his awesome start to his Bundesliga career.

Boniface has hit the ground running in the Bundesliga scoring four goals and making two assists in three league games (five goals in all competitions) for Bayer Leverkusen who currently lead the log after an impressive start in Germany.

The 22-year-old’s blistering start to the season has also seen the forward nominated for two awards in the Bundesliga.

Boniface has the second-most attempts on goal in the Bundesliga and he currently has the fifth-most in the league

In total, he has taken 21 shots at goal and with this result is presently the best player in this category in the league statistics. With three passes to a shot, he currently occupies sixth place within the team statistics along with Alejandro Grimaldo. The 22-year-old has also won 36 tackling duels and in doing so has fought his way to the seventh rank in the league.

The former Union Saint-Gilloise star has been shortlisted for the Rookie of the Month award in the Bundesliga as well as the league’s Player of the Month award.

Speaking about his incredible start to his career in Germany, Boniface said, “I give credit to the coach (Xabi Alonso) and all the players as well because the way we play seems like we have known ourselves for so long. The coach is doing all this for the team.”

Boniface is expected to make his debut for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome.

Nigeria, on 12 points and two ahead of second-placed Guinea Bissau, has already qualified for the finals, with only the group leadership to sort out after this weekend’s final-day games. Guinea Bissau’s Djurtus host third-placed and already-eliminated Sierra Leone in Bissau, and a win will take them to 13 points.

Victory for the Eagles in Uyo will take them to 15 points and top of the table no matter what happens in Bissau.
