BORBDA leadership targets food security
The Managing Director of the Benin/Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), Dr Femi Adekanbi, says strategic measures will be adopted to reduce food prices nationwide. Adekanbi made this known in Benin on Sunday, as the management team concluded a tour of the agency’s facilities in Edo.
He stated that the agency’s resourcefulness and multipurpose strategy would boost agricultural production and improve food availability across the country.
The BORBDA boss stressed the need for collaboration, particularly from host communities where basin projects are situated, to achieve this goal.

Addressing staff, Adekanbi said they must become more diligent and committed as the new management sets clear expectations on performance and accountability.
“We believe this new chapter will bring innovation, renewed energy and align with President Bola Tinubu’s goal of ensuring national food sufficiency,” he added.
Echoing this, Adegboyega Bamisile, Executive Director of Finance, assured investors that their funds were safe with the new BORBDA leadership.
He emphasised that Nigeria’s agricultural growth requires combined efforts from citizens to guarantee long-term food security.
“The new management will secure investors’ funds and ensure returns on investment that are transparent, fair, and dynamic,” Bamisile noted.
He also revealed that the management would carry out an asset valuation to determine the authority’s current assets and liabilities.
According to him, this step is crucial to attracting further investment to the river basin authority.
Johnson Oghuma, Executive Director of Agricultural Services, urged stakeholders to enhance security at BORBDA facilities to support food security goals.
