As part of inclusive leadership and the tradition of unity, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, hosted the first in a series of Ramadan Iftar gatherings with critical stakeholders across the state.
The event brought together members of the National Assembly, members of the Borno State House of Assembly, the Borno Elders Forum, service chiefs, members of the State Executive Council, leaders of the business community, and other respected figures.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Zulum welcomed guests and reflected on the progress recorded by his administration since 2019. He stated that the remarkable development and recovery witnessed across Borno State would not have been possible without collective effort and institutional cooperation.
“The stability and development we are witnessing today in Borno State are a product of collective effort. No single individual can claim ownership of these achievements. It is the result of unity, cooperation, and shared commitment to rebuilding our state,” he said.
He conveyed deep appreciation to the Speaker and all 27 members of the Borno State House of Assembly for their unwavering support and legislative cooperation, describing their role as critical to delivering the dividends of democracy.
The governor also acknowledged the strong partnership of members of the National Assembly, commending their contributions both at the federal level and within the state.
He highlighted their involvement in the distribution of food and non-food items to constituents since 2019, noting that their leadership in these exercises has significantly supported vulnerable communities.
Governor Zulum paid special tribute to members of the Borno Elders Forum, praising their steadfastness and wisdom. He recalled that during the height of the Boko Haram insurgency, none of the elders abandoned the state. He noted that some among them earned their degrees as far back as 1965, long before he was born, emphasising the depth of experience and guidance they continue to offer.
He further thanked members of the State Executive Council, describing the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, as the engine room of the administration, and commended commissioners and other officials for their tireless service.
The governor also recognised the immense contributions of security agencies in restoring stability across the state and urged them to sustain the momentum. He extended appreciation to members of the media for their role in public enlightenment and to those who organised and served the Iftar meal.
Zulum further appeals for Forgiveness and Peaceful Political Engagement.
Emphasising the spiritual significance of Ramadan, Governor Zulum described it as a month of mercy, reflection, and forgiveness. He urged citizens to cultivate tolerance and forgive one another.
“Ramadan is a sacred month of mercy and reflection. As leaders and citizens, we must use this period to forgive one another and strengthen the bonds that unite us. I humbly seek forgiveness from the people of Borno State for any shortcomings in the discharge of my duties, whether knowingly or unknowingly,” the governor stated.
In a moment of humility, he assured the gathering that all ongoing projects would be completed before the expiration of his tenure, praying for the financial strength to fulfil all promises made to the people.
With electioneering activities approaching, he called for politics without bitterness, stressing that all citizens are indigenes of Borno State and must avoid division, insults, and hostility.
Speaking afterwards on behalf of members of the National Assembly, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan thanked the governor for the invitation and reaffirmed their loyalty and support.
“We identify fully with the developmental strides and humanitarian interventions of this administration. The cooperation between the executive and the legislature has been instrumental in delivering relief and development to our people.”
He particularly commended the recent distribution of food items to constituents, describing it as commendable and impactful.
The Senator assures the governor of their continued support and partnership in the interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development in Borno State.
