Breast Cancer: Niger State Governor’s wife stresses regular examination

The wife of Niger state Governor in North Central Nigeria, Dr Amina Abubakar Sani Bello has advised women on the need to avail themselves for regular breast examination to avoid high risk of Breast Cancer .

Dr Amina Abubakar Bello stated this in statement by her spokesperson Rabi Sarki Bello, during the breast cancer awareness day, organised by the Pink Hope Foundation.

The Niger State Governor’s wife who is the proprietress of Raise Foundation,and also the ambassador for the Pink Hope Foundation, says “Breast cancer is one of the commonest killer disease among women and can totally be cured if detected at an early stage”..

“Most women shy away from facing the reality by not going to hospital for medical treatment,but instead engage in traditional medicine which often causes more damage”..

Dr Amina who further called on women to embrace breast cancer self examination, screening and other medical treatment,as early detection is cheaper and saves lives, explained that women between 45-54yrs of age should have a mammogram every year,while women of 55yrs should have biennial screening.

She also enjoined women at high risk of breast cancer based on certain factors to get MRI and mammogram every year.

While commending the pink Hope Foundation for sustaining the breast cancer awareness programme over the years, Amina Abubakar Bello, urged participants of the program to pass on the knowledge acquired to other people at the grassroots.
