The Code of Conduct Bureau of Nigeria has called on Public Office holders not to be tempted to divert Government funds for personal use.

The Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau Professor Mohammed Isah gave the advice at a one-day workshop on strict compliance with assets declaration and Code of Conduct for public officers, organised for staff of the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Professor lsah said it was important for public officers to maintain a high level of integrity as they carry out their duties.

“Public officers are key to public administration and that is why you are carefully selected in terms of education, skill and experience, you have been given legal backing to carry out your duties as well as a conducive environment to discharge your responsibilities.”

Professor lsah said the government expect that Public Officers discharge their responsibilities effectively and efficiently, by doing things right.

“Government also expect that you perform these responsibilities with high level of integrity, the idea of integrity came in because you are the custodian of our common wealth and to deploy this wealth is important to the government, rather than deploying it to personal pockets, otherwise known as corruption,” Professor Isah explained.

On his part, the Registrar, Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN) Mr Elijah Mohammed, urged the participants to be objective and accountable as they carry out their government duties.

He commended the Code of Conduct Bureau for the collaboration and urged the participants to extend the knowledge acquired to their colleagues.
