Burnt Market: Borno Governor assesses damages, supports victims

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has visited the Gamboru market, which is the second largest market in the heart of Maiduguri that was burnt down a few days ago.

Zulum in the morning hours of today visited the site for further assessment and pledged the government’s support for victims of the Gamboru Market fire outbreak.

The Governor who made the pledge while addressing pressmen said, the government’s intervention will depend on a realistic list of victims as provided by the metropolitan chairman alongside members of the market.

He added that the government is working with the established committee to resolve the issues confronting the victims of the incident.

To avert future occurrences, he noted that the possibility of re-structuring of all the markets in Maiduguri is key.

“The market is big enough however, poor organization and planning are the major challenges.

He stressed that the market will be modelled and one or two more markets will be established in Maiduguri.

The Governor expressed relief that the level of damage is not as intensive as many expected.
