Nigeria’s Bayelsa United defeated record Confederation Cup three-time champions CS Sfaxien of Tunisia 1-0 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup first round tie at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Bayelsa missed numerous chances in the first half with the Tunisian goalkeeper Mohamed Gaaloul saving his side more than once.

At the hour mark, Victory Beniangba scored what proved to be the game’s only  goal to hand Bayelsa United a vital home win. The visitors came close to equalising in the closing stages of the game, but Bayelsa United’s defence stood firm to keep Sfaxien out.

The return leg will take place next week Saturday at the Stade Taieb Mhiri in Sfax.
