Cameroon’s President Paul Biya has worn a mask for the second time since the coronavirus pandemic started.

President Biya returned to the country on Monday after weeks of a private stay in Geneva, Switzerland.

He was accompanied by the first lady Chantal who also wore a mask.

The president only wore a mask once, during his sister’s burial.

His not wearing a face mask had become a subject of discussion in the country.

Critics questioned why the president was disregarding mask wearing guidelines.

Demonstrators had camped outside the hotel where President Biya was staying during his Geneva visit calling for his return home.

The English-speaking North-West and South-West regions demanding independence have been plagued for four years by a bloody conflict between armed groups and government security forces.
