A late strike by Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar, who turned from hero to villain, secured a 1-0 result for the Africans against Brazil as he was also sent off for taking off his shirt in celebration, at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen, Qatar.

The South Americans fell behind when a lovely glancing header by Aboubakar in second half stoppage time found the back of the net. It was a perfect cross from Jerome Mbekeli to seal the first win by an African side in a FIFA World Cup match against Brazil.
However, goalscorer Aboubakar was sent off after celebrating with his shirt off and receiving a second yellow card. Cameroon had to play the rest of the game with 10 men.

The match finished 1-0 in favour of Cameroon, but the result wasn’t enough for the African side to claim a place in the last 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Switzerland’s win over Serbia means Cameroon were unable progress from Group G to make the next round, regardless of their result over Brazil.
Brazil tops Group G thanks to a superior goal difference over Switzerland, meaning they will face South Korea for a place in the quarter-finals.
