The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to remain disciplined, resilient and committed to national security as Muslims mark the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
In a message to officers, soldiers, ratings, airmen, airwomen and civilian staff, the CDS congratulated them on the successful completion of Ramadan and commended their dedication and sacrifice in safeguarding the nation.
“This auspicious occasion presents us with the opportunity to reflect on the spiritual lessons of Ramadan and to express our gratitude to the Almighty for granting us the blessing of witnessing the end of this holy period.”
He called on personnel to uphold values of discipline, honesty, tolerance, compassion and unity, noting that these virtues are essential for both personal development and strengthening cohesion within the military and the country.
The CDS acknowledged the sacrifices of troops, including those who lost their lives and others injured in the line of duty, saying their courage and commitment would not be forgotten.
“Our people must resolve that this has to come to an end.”
He stressed that security remains critical to Nigeria’s stability and democratic development, urging troops across all theatres of operation to sustain professionalism and enhance operational synergy to address emerging threats.
The CDS also assured personnel that their welfare remains a priority, with efforts ongoing to improve administrative support, operational capacity and overall working conditions.
“The defence of our country is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of government institutions, communities, and citizens.”
He called on Nigerians to continue supporting the military in tackling security challenges, emphasising the need for a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach.
The CDS further expressed appreciation to the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for sustained support to the Armed Forces through improved capabilities, resources and welfare.
“Through our shared resolve and cooperation, we will continue to strengthen the security of our nation and uphold the enduring values of our flourishing democracy.”
