Chelsea advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, progressing 2-1 on aggregate courtesy of goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz.
The hosts started with Havertz in attack, with Sterling and Joao Felix supporting on the flanks. For Dortmund, Sebastian Haller featured up-front with Marco Reus and Julian Brandt on the wings.
Just before halftime, Sterling opened the scoring for Chelsea with a powerful strike after Ben Chilwell’s pass found the England international.
In the second half, Chelsea were then awarded a penalty when Chilwell’s cross struck the hand of Dortmund defender Marius Wolf in the box. Striker Havertz stepped up for the spot kick but his shot struck the post.
However, the referee ordered a re-take of the penalty after players from both sides encroached into the 18-yard box.
Havertz then kept his cool as the picked the same spot and converted the penalty to the roar of the fans at Stamford Bridge. 2-0 to Chelsea!!!
Borussia Dortmund looked for a way back into the game. However, Chelsea’s defence stood firm as the match finished 2-0 in favour of Chelsea.
