Nigerians have been called upon to consistently trust and give maximum support to the government at all levels to enable those in leadership positions to serve them better.
Immediate past Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika gave the advice in an interview with State House Correspondents.
He said the issue of trust deficit must be discarded by citizens instead of being suspicious of the government in power.
“I think because of this issue of trust deficit, people mistrust and they are very suspicious of the government. Perhaps they may have a reason or they don’t even have one. Sometimes due to the lack of knowledge or lack of research. Sometimes it is even due to lack of information.
“In some cases, it may be that the government might have done something that gives the citizens concern. But I want to say that people should please give the government the benefit of the doubt at all times; whichever government is in place because they have been voted by the people,” he said.
Sirika stressed that giving maximum support to the government will enhance efficiency and good governance.
“That is the attitude that we should have. We should trust the government and try as much as we can to ensure that we give them the support they need to do things better; not to condemn them or be suspicious otherwise nothing will work. You need the buy-in of people for the government to be able to have the confidence to continue its policies and programmes,” he added.
