Nigerian youths have been called upon to desist from involving in any corrupt practices and strive to move the country forward.
The chief Imam of Al-Habibiyya Juma’at Mosque, Ustaz Fuad Adeyemi made the call in Abuja to commemorate 2021 World International Anti-Corruption Day, with the theme: “Your Right, your role, say no to corruption”
The event, organised by AL-Habibiyya Islamic society and funded by MacArthur Foundation, was targeted at secondary schools students in Nigeria.
Ustaz Adeyemi added that Nigerian youths should not allow themselves to be used by corrupt politicians to achieve their selfish interests and create destruction in the country.
“If you are mature enough to go and take the work of thugs, then you are good enough to be the President or any better thing of this country.”
“Corruption is the root of every problems we have in Nigeria, we need to be serious in the fight against corruption,” Ustaz Fuad Adeyemi warned
In his remark, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission ICPC Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, represented by the Assistant Commissioner from the Commission, Mr. Hassan Salihu described corruption as evil that kills society and hinders national development.
“Corruption gives birth to an era of economic and social decay, criminality, widespread poverty and hopelessness in our nation, the system renders over 62,800,000 Nigerian youths at risk of being useless in the society”. ICPC Chairman Professor Bolaji Owasanoye said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, represented by the Director Internal Affairs from the Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Shazali stated that, fighting corruption is everybody’s responsibility.
“Fighting corruption is a collective responsibilities, we must not only know our rights, we must also be conscious of duties to obey laws of our nation and to ensure that we do not involve in any criminal activities such as cybercrime, bribery and to hold those in authority accountable by monitoring the use of public resources,” EFCC Chairman explained
The event was attended by different secondary schools students and other personalities.
