Commission Awards N1.2bn Water Project In Niger State

The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC has awarded a contract worth over N1.2 billion for the reticulation and total overhaul of the New Bussa water works in Borgu Local Government Council of Niger state in North Central.

The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said the project is to ease water scarcity in the area.

Alhaji Yelwa who stated this at New Bussa, headquarters of Borgu Local Government Council, said when completed, the project will bring an end to more than 20 years of water scarcity in the area and its environs.

The Managing Director of HYPADEC gave six months as the duration for the project. He warned that the contract would be revoked if the contractor failed to abide by stipulated terms and conditions.

Represented by the Director of, the Community and Rural Development Directorate, Dr. Mahmud Mohammed, the HYPPADEC MD described the project as crucial given its importance to the well-being of members of the New Bussa community.

The Director, of Operations of the HYPADEC, Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara said the project consists of a technical and booster station, one million liters pump house and tank rehabilitation, utility vehicles, laboratory equipment, reticulation system, and seven kilometre expansion of distribution, rehabilitation of the entire building and three kilometre expansion of old township expansion and maintenance, among other things.

The Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Dantoro, represented by the Wazirin Borgu, Alhaji Bala Sa’adu, Who appreciated the project by HYPADEC, lamented negligence by the government in the past.

He however urged for more such projects in the areas covered by the Hydropower development Commission to achieve the desired aim.
