Commission renews MoU with Society of Engineers

Nigeria’s North East Development Commission, NEDC, and the Nigerian Society of Engineers have renewed their partnership to ensure the speedy reconstruction and rehabilitation of the region.

This was agreed upon when the Nigerian Society of Engineers, led by its President, Tasi’u Sa’ad-Wudil paid a working visit to the Managing Director of, the North East Development Commission, Mohammed Alkali in Abuja, Nigeria.

The MD, NEDC noted that working with NSE will add value to every development effort owning to the devastating damage caused by insurgency in the past thirteen (13) years in the region.

He emphasized that the partnership will also fast-track the completion of the 530 projects embedded in the North East Development master plan.

According to him, the two bodies will further look at areas that needed to be expanded and incorporated into the previous Memorandum of Understanding, to ensure maximum output for the benefit of the people of the North East region.

“At the end of the day, we’ll have a more functional and stronger MoU for the benefit of the people of the North East”, Alkali emphasised.

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Tasi’u Gidari-Wudil said renewing the partnership will stimulate interest in the implementation of Executive Order 5 and other relevant government policies.

“This is in line with one of the NSE’s main visions, which says “NSE shall be committed to focusing collaboration with, influencing and providing quality advice to the various arms of Government, Industry, Commerce, Academia and the Society at large, to uplift the country as a whole”.

 “Also, we are taking some strategic steps to continue the policy directions aimed at making NSE one of the best in the global comity of engineering organisations, as well as promoting the policies, business, and services of Engineering based MDAs, such as yours”  he emphasised.

According to Gidari-Wudil, the leadership of the Society through the Presidential Committee on North-East Rehabilitation and Development had watched with keen interest, the efforts of the Commission in the attainment of her mandate; rehabilitation and reconstruction of the North-East region.

 “To this end, the NSE is eager to stand with you to ensure that you succeed on your mandate”, he added.

The NSE-North-East Rehabilitation and Development Committee had successfully worked with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and is presently working on an MoU with the NNPC-Gas and Power Investment Company (NNPC-GPIC); Chad Basin Development Authority, amongst others.
