“As the Commonwealth Games end today, I have the honour to celebrate and commend Team Nigeria for making us proud.”

“There are enough reasons we should celebrate the team because members of the team did not only break records, but they also achieved feats none of our representatives at the previous games had achieved.

“Commendation must also go to the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the team handlers and their partners for providing the enabling environment for the team to excel.

“I salute each member of the team as I wish them well in their future endeavours, collectively and individually.

“I’m also using this opportunity to urge the team members to continue striving to make Nigeria proud in future national and global competitions.”

Team Nigeria won 12 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze medals, making a total of 35 medals. Nigeria’s previous best CWG outing was the Victoria 1994, Canada, with 11 gold medals.
