Communal Clashes: UBEB relocates Students to secured Schools in Ebonyi State

In a bid to ensure the safety of students and pupils in crisis areas in Ebonyi State South-East Nigeria, the Universal Basic Education Board, UBEB has facilitated their relocation to secured schools in the state.
The Executive Chairman, UBEB, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor stated this while addressing Journalists in Abakaliki the State capital.
Ikpor said the relocation of the students became necessary as the crisis communities in Effium, Ezza Effium, Abaomeg, Ishinkwo, Inyibichiri and Enyigba failed to reconcile themselves.
He called on parents, guidance and stakeholders in all the communities in the State to always maintain peace and eschew violence.
“We should at all times maintain peace and unity in our various communities because if there is peace, there would be conducive schools, teaching and learning will also take place, then great future will be guaranteed
“Violence leads to nowhere but peace will always bring Development to our society,“ Ikpor said
He however condemned the action of the warring communities.
On his part, the State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Francis Elechi said Ebonyi State Government has tried in making sure that students and pupils do not lose their academic year because of crisis.
“In places like Effium, a particular school has been secured to enable teaching and learning take place, in Ishinkwo/Abaomege and Enyigba/Enyibichiri Communities, students in those areas have been relocated to nearby schools where they can be secured
“No teacher lost his or her life in the crisis,“ Elechi added.
He however commiserated with the family of a teacher who was a victim in Herdsmen’s killings in Ishielu Local Government Area of the State.
